What it examines
The underlying detector analyzes pixels rather than trusting metadata. It is designed to recognize major current generators and AI-edited images, while remaining vulnerable to unfamiliar models and aggressive transformations.
What OriginVerdict adds
When present, we show camera make, model, capture time, dimensions, and editing software. Missing metadata proves nothing: social platforms and export tools commonly strip it.

AI detector FAQ
An AI photo detector estimates whether visual patterns in an image resemble content produced or edited by generative AI. OriginVerdict also surfaces safe file metadata so the score is not presented without context.
No. No detector can prove origin from pixels alone. Compression, screenshots, retouching, unusual camera pipelines, and newly released generators can all affect a score. Treat it as one signal in a broader review.
The underlying model is designed to recognize patterns from major current generators and is updated over time. A high score still does not prove which specific generator was used.
It can surface a generative-AI signal in fully generated and AI-edited images, but subtle edits are harder than fully synthetic images. The result deliberately uses an uncertainty band instead of forcing every image into yes or no.
OriginVerdict temporarily transfers the original through private storage and attempts to delete it immediately after analysis. A one-day automatic cleanup rule covers interrupted requests. The file is also sent to Sightengine, so Sightengine's processing and retention terms apply. See our Privacy Policy before uploading sensitive material.
People use those phrases for the same basic intent: checking whether a visual may be AI-generated. We use one canonical tool page so the explanations, limitations, and result experience stay consistent.
